Week For Good: The Airbnb team comes together for a week of voluntary action in Paris

“Week of Good” is an annual event that brings together Airbnb employees, non-profit partners and our community of hosts. The aim of this special week is to give up some of our time to help those in our community who need it most. This year, we organised a busy program: from a walk in the Buttes Chaumont with elderly people, potting at the Maisons Gaîté in Montparnasse and DIY in the urban farm of Bobigny.

In Paris, every employee had the chance to participate in workshops across the city, supported by a variety of French associations that work every day for the most deprived. Here’s an overview of our busy Week for Good:

Domino session with seniors

During a short stroll in the Buttes Chaumont park under a shy sun, the Airbnb team found five elderly people from the association Les Petits Frères des Pauvres. The goal: to spend an afternoon together to chat, laugh and have fun. Political debates, sharing of life stories and a game or two of dominoes.

DIY workshop at the Bobigny urban farm

Hammers, screw turns and layers of paint were what was waiting for us at the Bobigny urban farm.. The whole office has given a boost to the association La Sauge which will launch an urban farm in the town of Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis). We helped to build a giant henhouse, elaboration of a mandala with plants and even learnt how to build dry toilets! Everyone put their heart into this work and we’ve helped Bobigny get ready for their official launch at the end of May.

Painting and Gardening in la Gaîté

The association Les Petits Frères des Pauvres welcomed at La Maison Gaîté some twenty residents over the age of fifty and former homeless. Philippe, the head of the center, welcomed us and outlined the day’s agenda: cooking lunch for residents,, a presentation given by the association about their work, one workshop showing us how to repot plants in the garden for some and another workshop teaching us how to reupholster furniture. It was a lot of fun for all the budding handymen in the group and ended with a friendly lunch shared by residents and members of the Airbnb team.

Last year’s Week for Good saw Airbnb employees spend a total of 6,000 hours serving others. For the previous edition, Airbnb employees spent a total of more than 6,000 hours serving others.

Thanks to our community of hosts for giving up their time this year and to the organisations who welcomed us.
